The AUIS Voice is a publication of the students of The American University of Iraq, Sulamani. It is published biweekly when school is in session. The Voice is a newspaper by the students and for the AUIS community. The newspaper is an independent publication and is not connected to any political party, religious group or ethnic group. An editorial that appears without a byline represents the views of the student editorial board of the Voice. Any other column, letter or cartoon is the work of the attributed author and does not necessarily represent the views or opinions of the Voice or of AUIS.

The Voice welcomes all contributions. All submissions become the property of the Voice. Letters should be no longer than 250 words and must include the name, hometown and contact information of the author for verification. The Voice reserves the right to edit all material.

Mission Statement

The Voice is a student publication of The American University of Iraq, Sulaimani. We strive to be accurate and to be fair. Our first commitment is to news about AUIS. Our audience includes students, administrators, faculty, staff and community members. We recognize that we are a learning laboratory for students. When we make mistakes, we will correct them promptly. We will work to uphold the highest standards of journalism standards as stated in the Society of Professional Journalists Code of Ethics. All of our stories and columns will be grounded in fact. We will not speculate or use anonymous sources. Most importantly, we strive to be independent and will defend ourselves against influence from any group or individual, including those who support us logistically and financially.

The AUIS Voice is a member of the Associated Collegiate Press.

Registration No. 236, Kurdistan Journalists Syndicate

The AUIS Voice is registered with the Kurdistan Journalists Syndicate as required by the National Assembly law of the Kurdistan region of Iraq (Provision 1 of Article 56). The KJS requires that this notice be published upon registration. This statement, written in Kurdish, states that the AUIS Voice has met the requirements of the law to publish in the Kurdistan region.

Award Winning

AUIS Voice Website won a Best of Show award winning at University of Minnesota in the United Stated at the Associated Collegiate Press (ACP) National College Journalism Workshop in July 2010. The Voice Website won the Seventh Place award in the show.
